Vanitas is one of the main antagonists in the Kingdom Hearts series.

History

Kingdom Hearts

Vanitas was created by Master Xehanort by removing the darkness from a Keyblade wielder known as Ventus, he later trained under Master Xehanort and discoved that he could create creatures known as the Unversed.

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Vanitas was constantly taunting Ventus about his friends and would even go hand help Master Xehanort in his plans to make Terra his new vessel, he was also taunting Aqua. He unleased the Unversed throughout various worlds just to help train the three for their battle in the Keyblade Graveyard. Vanitas was first helping Master Xehanort with his fight against Terra, only to later fight against Aqua and Ventus, where he later fused with Ventus and fought against him in a Dive to the Heart, while also fighting against Aqua as Ventus-Vanitas, however he lost on both ocasiouns and was presumed to be deceased.

Vanitas made a cameo appearance in Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance, along side Young Xehanort, saying to Sora 'Even if you are not the prisoner'.

Vanitas made his return in Kingdom Hearts III, where he was first seen in Monstropolis, where he was using the Unversed to create Scream energy, along with the Heartless, he was helping Randle in his quest to take over the company of Monsters Inc. where he later created an Unversed known as the Lump of Horror to fight against Sora, Donald, Goofy, Mike Resalski and Sully. He was later thrown in a door by Mike and Sully, only for that door into another door and so on until they destroyed the last door. He later appeared in the Keyblade Graveyard once again with the other members of Organization XIII to fight against the Guardians of Light. He was seen fighting against Aqua and Ventus, along with Terra-Xehanort, however when he was defeated he faded away claiming to be Darkness.

Vanitas appeared in the Hollow Bastion stage through a mural in the Station of Awakening.
