Darth Maul was found at a young age by Darth Sidious, only to be trained to use the dark side of the force.
He made his first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Manace, where he was the appearntice of the Sith known as Darth Sidious, who was sent to Tatooine so that he would take down the Jedi known as Qui Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi so that he would take down Queen Amadala Padmae but failed. Darth Maul later went to Naboo to finish his fight with the Jedi, he murdered Qui Gon and was cut in half by Obi-Won, only for what's left of him to fall down a pipe.
After his death at Nabo, Darth Maul's tactics and trainings were studied by future generations of Dark Side force users in the Expanded Universe timeline. In the Disney timeline however, Darth Maul suvived having his legs cut off. He was later given mechanical legs and went to fight the Jedi during and after the clone wars. He died due to an aged Ben Kenobi in combat a bit later.
