Chaos was a Chao that was mutated because of Tikal's tribe wanting the energy from the Chaos Emeralds for their own greed. This lead to Chaos nearly destroying the world until Tikal trapped herself and Chaos in the Master Emerald.
Chaos was seen in Sonic 3, through a mural.
Over a hundred years, Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik discovered Chaos and tried to use him for his new goal to take over the Earth once again. In Sonic Adventure, Chaos first appeared in an area where police where shooting at him and later fought against Sonic the Hedgehog, where he later left. He was later summoned by Dr. Eggman once again, only to be given a Chaos Emerald, witch gave him a boost in power. Dr. Eggman continued to give Chaos more emeralds and made him fight against Sonic, Miles "Tails" Prower and Knuckles the Echidna, only to later disappear. after holding six of the Chaos Emeralds, Chaos would later fight against Sonic once again as well as Big the Cat and a bit later Knuckles once again. Chaos then went to battle against both Dr. Eggman and Knuckles and later take the last Chaos, where he would destroy Station Square. Chaos went to fight against Sonic in his super form and got defeated, he saw the Chao and his old friend Tikal, only to later disappear.
In Sonic Adventure 2, Chaos returned in the 2 Player mode with a similar move set to Knuckles to collect pieces of the Master Emerald and some keys. old Badniks that look like Chaos would also fight against Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Eggman, Shadow the Hedgehog and Rouge the Bat.
Chaos has been mentioned in Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog, being a former foe of Sonic's.
Chaos also appears in a minigame in both Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2.
Chaos was mentioned once again in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, possible being one that first broke the Master Emerald.
Chaos made a minor cameo in Sonic and the Black Knight, through the fanart gallery.
Perfect Chaos appeared once again in Sonic Generations, where he went to fight against Sonic once more but was once again defeated.
In both Sonic Runners and Sonic Forces Mobile Game, Chaos appears as one of the playable characters.
In Sonic Forces, Chaos went to fight against Tails, who was trying to repair E-123 Omega, but was defeated by Classic Sonic the Hedgehog. Replicas of Chaos would also appear to fight against the resistance.
Chaos also makes a cameo in Sonic Team Racing.
Super Smash Bros.[]
Chaos made his first crossover appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as a sticker to increase the powers of a fighter.
Chaos returned in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: World of Light, as a Spirit taking control of a boy Inkling to battle against the fighters. After being defeated, he would help the other fighters in their battles.
LEGO Dimensions[]

Chaos has appeared in LEGO Dimensions, where he was summoned after a battle against both Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Eggman. He later went to fight against Sonic and absorbed a devise, he was however defeated and possibly went back to his home dimension a bit afterwards.
