William Sparks, better known as Calypso, is the main antagonist of the Twisted Metal series.
History[]
Twisted Metal[]
William Sparks was an ordinary man until he was killed in a car accident. Afterwards, he left Hell and took some of the powers of Minion. He would then go by the alias of Calypso and run a contest each year to compete in a contest known as Twisted Metal.
Calypso made his first appearance in the first Twisted Metal, where in the year 2005, he began the tenth Twisted Metal contest by sending an email to Agent Stone, Angela Fortin, Bruce Cochrane, Captain Spears, Charlie Kane, Commander Mason, Dave & Mike, Mr. Ash, Mr. Grimm, Scott Campbell, Sergeant Carl Roberts and Sweet Tooth. He would then give the winner of the contest the prize they requested from him, more or less.
Calypso returned in Twisted Metal 2, where after last year's contest ruined the City of Angels, he decided to make his contest go worldwide. Asking for the return of Bruce Cochrane, Mr. Grimm, Sweet Tooth and Minion to compete in his contest once more. He also handed out invitations to Amanda Watts, Axel, Captain Jamie Roberts, Captain Rogers, Ken Masters, Mike & Stu, Mortimer Scharf and Simon Whittlebone to compete. Calypso's daughter, Krista Sparks was recreated by the LAPD to enter the contest and to take down Calypso. Calypso may have also found a way to bring what Sweet Tooth considers to be a past version of himself that he does not like, into reality, known as Marcus Kane and asked him to join the contest too. similar to last time, Calypso would grant the winner whatever they wished for, more or less.
While taking place in a second timeline, Calypso appeared in Twisted Metal III, where he asked the contestants known as Axel, Bruce Cochrane, Minion, Mr. Grimm, Sweet Tooth, Sergeant Carl Roberts and Captain Jamie Roberts as a duo and Marcus Kane to return to his contest. He would also ask Amber Rose, Buster Cobb, Club Kid, Damien Coles, Granny Dread and Lance Wilder to join his contest. Although after a person would win this contest, Calypso just assumed the wishes of his contestants this time around and gave them something they did not ask for.
Also in the second timeline, in Twisted Metal 4, Melvin mentioned that Calypso and Sweet Tooth were almost as old as the Twisted Metal contest and in the modern day, Sweet Tooth took Calypso's ring that took souls from the dead contestants, tossed Calypso out of the window and took over the Twisted Metal contest with his band of Clowns. After this, Calypso decided to enter Sweet Tooth's contest in his Nuke Mobile. After Calypso won the contest, he demanded for his ring back, only to later be denied and then he attacked a group of Clowns and had a fight with Sweet Tooth over the ring, trapping both of their souls in the ring and letting the rest of the dead souls out.
The game is said to take place in Sweet Tooth's head, indicating that this game will be considered to be non-canon, but Calypso appears in Twisted Metal: Black, where Calypso may have hung around a Doomsday Cult for a bit, only to later kidnap a few people and stolen a few important items. Afterwards, Calypso went into Blackfield Asylum to look for contestants for his contest. Three familiar faces he picked were Axel, Charlie Kane and Son, Sweet Tooth and Minion (Marcus Kane). New faces also enter his contest, those being Billy Ray Stillwell, Black, Bloody Mary, Cage, Dollface, John Doe, No-Face, a Preacher and Raven. It is unknown if both Agent Stone and Mr. Grimm are newcomers or just how Sweet Tooth saw them two contestants. After someone won this contest, Calypso would give the winner whatever they desired, with six possible acceptions.
While also being non-canon, but in a different way, Calypso also appeared in Twisted Metal: Small Brawl, going under the name of Billy Calypso. He was seen bullying some of the kids and asked them to play his game. Although a bit different, returning players are Agent Stone, Axel, Mortimer Scharf, Mr. Ash ans Sweet Tooth. New players being Daniel Masters, Joel, Kenny Whittlebone, Officer Charles Roberts, Private Mason and Sarah Watts. It is unknown if Mr. Grimm or Vinnie & Bruce are returning characters or new players. After a player won his contest, Billy Calypso would give some of them anything they wanted, more or less.
Taking place in the same timeline as the first two installments, Calypso appeared in Twisted Metal: Head-On, where he once again decided to bring in another world-wide contest. His returning contestants are Axel, Sergeant Carl Roberts and Captain Jamie Roberts, the ghost of Krista Sparks, the ghost of Simon Whittlebone, Marcus Kane, Sweet Tooth, Mortimer Scharf and Mr. Grimm. The new contestants, wanted or unwanted are Agent Shepard, Angel, Catfish, Chuckie Floop, Colonel Hall, Cousin Eddy, Gene Ruttish and Miranda Watts. He would once again give the prize of anything the winner would desire, more or less.
Calypso may have caused a contest in Twisted Metal: Lost, with no known prize this time around. Still taking place in Sweet Tooth's mind and so is considered to be non-canon. All contestants except from Minion and John Doe return from Twisted Metal: Black. Two now contestants being a second John Doe and an undead race car driver called Severed Sam.
In a seperate timeline, Calpyso appeared in the Twisted Metal 2012 game, where he owns his own company. He later asked Sweet Tooth, his band of Clowns, Mr. Grimm, his gang of Skulls and Dollface with her group of Dolls to compete in Twisted Metal. A Preacher with his Holy Men may have also entered, but was trapped in a type of prison. Calypso would send Sweet Tooth to the grave of Sophie Kane, effectively killing him. He would than send Mr. Grimm back in time to try to save his father, but being the cause of his death and his own. He would later send Dollface on an airplane runway, leading her to be driven over by an airplane. Afterwards, Calypso went to bring back Sophie Kane in hopes to make her the star for his Twisted Metal tourniments.

Trivia[]
- Calypso, Mr. Grimm and Sweet Tooth have appeared in every Twisted Metal game.
- So far, Caplyso is only playable in Twisted Metal 4 and is the only known driver of the Nuke Mobile.
- The version of Calypso seen in Twisted Metal: Black, can be considered as Sweet Tooth's self-awarness, trying to help/fix some parts of his mind while trying to stamp out other parts of it.
- As seen in Twisted Metal: Head-On, Calypso's powers may not always benifit him.
