Axel is a playable character in the Twisted Metal series. Despite having no real magical powers, he has took part in the paranormal competitions known as the Twisted Metal tournaments.

History

Twisted Metal

At one point, Axel was bounded to a vehicle also known as Axel and so wanted to look for a way to free himself from this contraption.

Axel made his first appearance in Twisted Metal 2, where he decided to enter the Twisted Metal tournament, in hopes to free himself from his vehicle. He went to fight against other competitors of the tournament. When he won, he decided to get approach to his father, leading him to tell his father that he learned his lesson and tore both his arms and legs off while escaping the vehicle he was bounded into, telling his father that he is no longer his father and left into the wheatfield to never be seen for a long time.

While taking place in an alternate timeline, Axel also appeared in Twisted Metal III, where he went to enter another Twisted Metal tournament. After he won this tournament, he decided that he wanted to become all machine, leading to Calypso to turn him into a wrist watch.

While taking place in the same timeline as it did in the last entry, Axel also appeared in Twisted Metal 4, going under the name of Super Axel and presumably found a way back to being normal after Calypso's magic may have worn off. Super Axel decided to go into the Twisted Metal tournament that was being held by Sweet Tooth and began fighting against the other contestants. Although it is believed that he may have not won this tournament.

While it is said to take place in Sweet Tooth's mind, Axel has also appeared in Twisted Metal: Black, where his wife was murdered by the clown known as Sweet Tooth and so decided to join the Twisted Metal tournament to look for the clown and get revenge on him. Wherever or not this was a real tournament but in a some one else's view is still unknown.

Axel appeared in Twisted Metal: Small Brawl, where he was bullied by Calypso. He then entered Billy Calypso's Twisted Metal RC tournament and after he won, Calypso created a metal pair of legs for him to put on, only to be bullied once again by Billy. It should be noted on wherever or not this is the same Axel from the main timeline is currently unknown.

While taking place in the original timeline after the second instalment, Axel also appears in Twisted Metal: Head-On, where he asked someone called Dr. Zemu to give him prospetic arms and legs after leaving his vehicle with the same name, only for him to once again enter the Twisted Metal tournament. After Axel went to fight against the other contestants and win the tournament, he went to give his wish over to Dr. Zemu as a favor for his new robotic limbs. He, however decided to to use his wish to remove violence from the world, trying to wish for world peace. He was electricuted by Dr. Zemu because of this, leading to Calypso to mishear him and created pizza with his magic.

Possibly taking place in Sweet Tooth's mind again, a version of Axel is seen in Twisted Metal: Lost, where he went to go in another tournament, in hopes to let his dead wife now sleep peacefully. It is currently unknown if he won this contest or not.

While Axel does not appear in the 2012 version of Twisted Metal, his vehicle does and could be used by either Sweet Tooth, Dollface, Mr. Grimm or even a Preacher. or by one of the few factions, being Clowns, Skulls, Dolls or the Holy Men.

So far, it is currently unknown what happened to Axel, although it is believed that he stopped doing the Twisted Metal tournaments and possibly began a new life.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

Axel's vehicle makes an appearance in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, where he is seen in Black Rock Stadium racing against Sweet Tooth and a helicoptor, piloted by Dollface.

Trivia

• So far, Axel or his vehicle with the same name has appeared in every Twisted Metal game with the exception of the first game.
• The Axel seen in Twisted Metal: Black and Twisted Metal: Lost, is viewed to be how Sweet Tooth sees a regret and possibly how he wants to go out. It is also possibly how he sees the driver, Axel in his own mind.
• The only other drivers of the vehicle known as Axel is Sweet Tooth, Dollface, Mr. Grimm and the Preacher.
• Axel was named after a vehicle component used to hold wheels together.
